Baccarat is a classic card-comparison game with simple, fixed rules. In each round two cards are dealt to the Player hand and two to the Banker hand, and the goal is for a hand to reach a total as close to 9 as possible. Different cards hold different values, and those values decide which hand comes out closest to 9.

In Baccarat, cards carry different values: all 10s and face cards count as 0, an Ace counts as 1, and number cards count their face value. Only the last digit of a hand's total matters, so a hand that adds up to 15 counts as 5. The hand closest to 9 wins the round. It is an easy game to follow, and the guide below explains the bets, the card values and the third-card rule in full.

What is Baccarat

Baccarat is a card-comparison game in which you bet on one of two hands — the Player hand or the Banker hand — or on a Tie between them. You do not play a hand yourself; you simply choose which outcome you think the round will produce. Two cards are dealt to each hand, and the hand whose total is closest to 9 wins. The whole round is decided by fixed rules, which is what makes Baccarat easy to follow even though it has a high-stakes reputation. To learn more about the platform and how our content is prepared, see our About page.

Unlike a game such as Teen Patti, where you build and bet on your own hand against other players, in Baccarat your only decision is which of the three bets to place before the cards are dealt. After that, the deal and any extra card follow set rules, with no choices to make.

How to Play Baccarat

A round of Baccarat follows this flow:

  1. Place your bet. Before any cards are dealt, choose one of three bets: the Player hand, the Banker hand, or a Tie.
  2. The deal. Two cards are dealt to the Player hand and two to the Banker hand. Each card has a fixed value (explained below).
  3. Read the totals. Add the two cards in a hand, then keep only the last digit of that total. For example, a 7 and an 8 make 15, which counts as 5.
  4. Third card, if any. Under fixed rules, a third card may be drawn for one or both hands depending on the first two totals. This happens automatically — there is no decision for you to make.
  5. The round resolves. The hand whose total is closest to 9 wins. If both hands have the same total, the round is a Tie. A new round then begins.

Basic Rules

The rules of Baccarat are short and fixed. Each round uses two hands, the Player and the Banker, and exactly two cards are dealt to each at the start. Card values are set: a card from 2 to 9 counts its face value, a 10 or any face card (Jack, Queen, King) counts as 0, and an Ace counts as 1. Suits do not matter. To find a hand's total you add its cards and keep only the last digit, so a total of 15 counts as 5 and a total of 10 counts as 0. The hand closest to 9 wins; if the two hands have the same total, the round is a Tie. A third card may be drawn for one or both hands under fixed drawing rules, but this is decided automatically by the game rather than by any player.

Responsible Gaming

Baccarat is meant to be light entertainment, and it stays fun only when it is kept in proportion. The game is for users aged 18 and above, and its outcomes are based on chance — it is not a way to make money or a source of income. Decide a time and money limit before you start, never stake more than you can comfortably afford to lose, and walk away when you reach your limit whether you are ahead or behind. Frequently Asked Questions

Baccarat is a card-comparison game where you bet on the Player hand, the Banker hand, or a Tie. Two cards are dealt to each hand, and the hand whose total is closest to 9 wins the round.

Before the deal you place one bet: Player, Banker, or Tie. Two cards are dealt to each hand, totals are read using only the last digit, a third card may be drawn under fixed rules, and the hand closest to 9 wins.

The three bets are Player, Banker, and Tie. The Player and Banker bets win when that hand is closest to 9, while the Tie bet wins only when both hands finish on the same total.

Cards from 2 to 9 count their face value, 10s and face cards (Jack, Queen, King) count as 0, and an Ace counts as 1. Suits do not matter.

You add the cards in a hand and keep only the last digit of the total. For example, 7 plus 8 is 15, which counts as 5, and a total of 10 counts as 0.

The hand whose total is closest to 9 wins the round. If both the Player and Banker hands have the same total, the round is a Tie.

Depending on the first two totals, a third card may be drawn for the Player hand, the Banker hand, or both. This follows fixed drawing rules and happens automatically, with no decision for the player.

Your only choice is which of the three bets to place before the deal. After that, the cards and the third-card rule are decided by fixed rules, so the outcome of each round is down to chance.

Yes. Card distribution is set by a certified-fair random number generator, so each round is independent and cannot be predicted from previous rounds.
